Toasted Almond

Features

The Toasted Almond is a sweet, creamy and quite indulgent cocktail, which belongs to the family of "after dinner" cocktails (digestifs or desserts).

Classic recipe

Pour 3 cl of Amaretto, 3 tbsp of Kahlua liqueur, and 3 cl of single cream into a shaker with ice. Shake vigorously to emulsify the cream. Strain into an old-fashioned glass filled with ice.

Variation

For a stronger cocktail without changing the flavor, there's the 'Roasted Almond', which adds 3 cl of vodka and reduces the coffee liqueur by half (1.5 cl).

Background

Toasted Almond appeared in the United States in the 1980s. It was created as a variation of the White Russian (vodka, coffee liqueur, and cream) by adding amaretto (an Italian liqueur with almond and apricot flavors).

Its name comes from the rounded, slightly caramelized flavor of amaretto combined with the sweetness of the cream and the depth of the coffee liqueur. It is mainly found in American cocktail bars and in mixology books from the 80s and 90s, a period when creamy and sweet cocktails were very popular.
